Responsible gaming

tailthat is a place to talk about bets, not to make them. We never take wagers or money. But everything here is about betting, so here is how to keep it fun, how to spot when it isn’t, and where to get help. If you need help right now, call or text 1-800-GAMBLER.

What tailthat does

  • tailthat is for adults 21 and older. Where sports betting isn’t legal, you can still read and post picks in units for fun, but don’t place real-money bets, and steer clear of offshore sites.
  • We do not accept, place, or broker bets, hold balances, or pay out anything. There is nothing to deposit.
  • Records and win rates here come from bets people entered themselves. A hot streak on tailthat is not proof anyone can beat the books, and tailing a bet is never a sure thing.
  • Selling picks and posting sportsbook promo or referral links are against our terms.

Keep it fun

  • Decide what you can afford to lose before you bet, and treat it as the cost of entertainment. Never bet money meant for rent, bills, or debts.
  • Bet in units: a fixed, small share of your budget per bet. You can set what a unit is worth to you in Settings.
  • Don’t chase losses. Bigger bets to win it back are how a bad day becomes a bad month.
  • Don’t bet when you are drunk, angry, upset, or bored, and don’t borrow to bet.
  • Set time limits, and take days off. Betting is not a way to make a living.

Warning signs

Any of these is a reason to step back and talk to someone:

  • Betting more, or more often, to get the same excitement.
  • Chasing losses, or feeling you have to win back what you lost.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back.
  • Lying to family or friends about how much you bet or lose.
  • Borrowing money, selling things, or missing bills because of betting.
  • Betting to escape problems or to feel better.
  • Missing work, school, or time with people because of betting.

Limits and self-exclusion

  • Legal US sportsbooks let you set deposit, wager, and time limits, take a time-out, or close your account. Look under responsible gaming in your sportsbook’s account settings.
  • Most states with legal betting run a voluntary self-exclusion program that bars you from every licensed sportsbook in the state for a period you choose. Your state’s gaming regulator or the helpline above can tell you how to enroll.
  • Free blocking software such as BetBlocker can block gambling sites and apps on your devices.
  • On tailthat you can switch off sports in Settings so they leave your slate, or ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy).

Worried about someone else
